Simply Your Best's Domestic Violence Intervention Program Awarded "Best Innovative Program" by the Santa Cruz County Domestic Violence Commission

SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA - November 1, 2006 - Life skills education organization Simply Your Best was given a Best Innovative Program award from the Santa Cruz County Domestic Violence Commission (DVC) for its domestic violence intervention program. The award was presented by DVC chair Heidi Simonson during an October 24th Board of Supervisors session that honored individuals and organizations who have made a remarkable impact helping those who have been victimized by domestic violence.

"Abusive and violent behaviors are all too common in our intimate and family relationships." said Simply Your Best founder and program director Jodi Harvey "That's why Simply Your Best was created. We help people recognize and stop using all counterproductive or harmful behaviors, including addictive and abusive behaviors."

Simply Your Best's Domestic Violence Intervention Program for men and women, male teens and female teens, is a 52-session gender specific course that builds participants' awareness of what constitutes abuse, the consequences of choosing abusive behaviors, and non-abusive options that build and support healthy relationships. Simply Your Best typically uses small group sessions (6-10 people) for discussing problems and practicing positive life skills in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Simply Your Best's classes are educational in nature - they are not counseling, therapy or support groups.

Harvey added, "Some of our clients have been referred to us by other agencies and organizations while some decide to get help on their own. We're thrilled when people recognize the need to make some substantial changes in their lives before they lose what's most important to them because of their abusive and counterproductive behaviors."

Harvey noted that Simply Your Best educational facilitators, Jeanine Cowan and Sarah Woodside, have been instrumental in the success of the Domestic Violence Intervention Program over the past four years.

Update: So much has changed since this award. We've moved to a larger location, incorporated and franchised! I can't wait to see what is in store for the future.
